Sleep MusicWhen you're trying to get your child to sleep, the right sleep music can help to relax him or her. It can drown out interfering sounds and help them to focus so that they nod off. This helps to transition the child to bedtime in a more calm and relaxed manner. The key word is the "right" sleep music because of course not all music will help a child get to sleep. It may be obvious that loud rock and roll or heavy metal music will not help them to nod off, and catchy pop tunes will help them to wake up, not get drowsy. While you may be thinking that something soft will help them to nod off, the right sleep music for children won't mean love songs or orchestral arrangements either. The reason for this is that children and babies especially need simple sleep music in order to get to sleep. They cannot process complicated music or music that is too busy, even if it's soft with a slow tempo. Notice how lullabies are typically one note played at one time and don't include several notes together. There is a reason for this; it's easier for the children and babies to process this music. When you're trying to choose sleep music for your child, don't choose something that puts you to sleep or that you find relaxing. The right sleep music also means lullabies without words. This is because lyrics can also be distracting to the children, especially those not sung by the familiar voices of their family! A mother or father or someone else they see every day singing to them can be relaxing, but a stranger's voice can be distracting and unsettling. When you choose sleep music try to choose something without lyrics and singing. It's also good to remember that sleep music can be played for some time after the child gets to sleep but it shouldn't be played all night. While they're drifting off, it can block out other noises and help them to get to that deep sleep, but after that, it can be distracting and keep them from that deep sleep they need. When you purchase sleep music for the child, consider wind-up toys and items that stop playing after some time, or get a CD or other item that is timed and that stops playing on its own. When you purchase sleep music for your child, choose something that is specifically designed as lullabies and for children and babies. In this way you know that you'll get something that is truly relaxing and that will work to get them tired and drowsy and nodding off. The right sleep music can help with their rest, if you take the time to choose it wisely. |
